About Local 1908

When the Clark County Fire Department was formed in 1953, there were no regulations for safety, adequate equipment or fair wages. In fact, most firefighters had to purchase their own masks and equipment, and many firefighters were forced to work two or three jobs just to make ends meet.

At the time, serving as a firefighter was also considered an “early death occupation” because the average lifespan was only in the 40s, long before any health benefits were received.

IAFF Local 1908 was formed in 1969 to address these concerns fight for the first responders who put their lives on the line for our community. It took years, but our Local’s first victory was a set of rules and regulations implemented countywide. Since then, training and safety regulations have consistently increased in order to best serve the men and women of our department and the residents of Clark County.

Today, IAFF Local 1908 works with the County to protect the health and safety of our men and women on the front lines. We also lobby the Nevada Legislature to protect the rights and benefits the first responders of our state work so hard for. For nearly 50 years, IAFF Local 1908 has worked to serve our community.

Our mission is first and foremost the safety of our community, and we ensure that by working every day on behalf of the health and well-being of Clark County Firefighters. If you have any further questions, please email
